Frequently Asked Questions

Is card counting illegal?
No. Card counting is a legal mathematical technique that uses probability to track the composition of the remaining deck. Casinos may ask you to stop playing or leave, but it is not a crime in any US jurisdiction.
What is the Hi-Lo counting system?
Hi-Lo is the most widely used card counting system. Cards 2–6 count as +1, cards 7–9 count as 0, and cards 10, J, Q, K, A count as −1. When the running count is positive, more high cards remain, which favors the player.
What's the difference between running count and true count?
The running count is the raw total since the shoe started. The true count divides the running count by the estimated number of decks remaining. True count is more accurate for multi-deck games and is what determines bet sizing.
How fast should I be able to count?
Most professional counters can track a single card in under one second. Start slow (2–3 seconds per card) and gradually increase speed. The goal is accuracy first, speed second. A typical casino deals about one card per 1–2 seconds.
What is the Omega II system?
Omega II is a more advanced "level 2" counting system where cards are assigned values of −2, −1, 0, +1, or +2. It's more accurate than Hi-Lo but harder to use in real time. It's best for experienced counters who have already mastered Hi-Lo.

Free Card Counting Practice Tool

This free card counting trainer helps you practice three popular counting systems: Hi-Lo, KO (Knock-Out), and Omega II. The trainer deals cards from a full shoe at adjustable speed, tracking your running count and true count in real time.

Why Practice Card Counting?

Card counting is a mathematically proven technique that can shift the house edge in the player's favor. But it only works with practice — you need to be able to maintain an accurate count at casino speed while appearing natural. This trainer helps you build that skill.

Three Counting Systems

The Hi-Lo system is the most popular and easiest to learn. KO eliminates the true count conversion, making it simpler for beginners. Omega II is more precise but harder to use, making it suitable for advanced players.
