Frequently Asked Questions
Should I bet banker or player?
Banker. Even with the 5% commission on wins, banker has a 1.06% house edge vs. player's 1.24%. Over thousands of hands, the difference is meaningful. The tie bet at 14.36% should always be avoided.
What is the 5% commission?
The banker hand wins slightly more often (45.86% vs 44.62%) due to the drawing rules. Without a commission, betting banker would be +EV for the player. The 5% commission on banker wins restores the house edge to 1.06%.
Can you count cards in baccarat?
Technically yes, but the edge gained is so tiny (around 0.01-0.02%) that it's not practical. You'd need to play millions of hands to see a meaningful profit. Unlike blackjack, baccarat card counting is not a viable advantage play strategy.
What is EZ Baccarat?
EZ Baccarat eliminates the 5% banker commission. Instead, banker bets push when the banker wins with a 3-card total of 7. This gives the house a 1.02% edge on banker — slightly better than standard baccarat's 1.06%.
Baccarat Odds, Probabilities & House Edge
This free baccarat odds calculator shows every probability and house edge number you need. Baccarat is one of the lowest house edge games in the casino, but only if you stick to banker or player bets and avoid the tie.
Why Banker Is the Best Bet
The banker hand wins 45.86% of the time vs. 44.62% for player. After the 5% commission, banker still has a lower house edge (1.06% vs 1.24%). The only bets in a casino with a lower edge are blackjack with perfect basic strategy and craps pass line with full odds.
